Faisalabad Customs Intelligence impounds items valued Rs134.5m in May

FAISALABAD: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation seized smuggled goods worth Rs134.5million involving duty and taxes of Rs 68.5million in different anti-smuggling activities during May 2017. A vehicle valued Rs13.2million was also impounded under Section 157 during the month of May 2017.

The customs intelligence conducted operations against the smuggled goods and vehicles in different areas of its jurisdiction including Sargodha, Khoushab, Sara-e-Muhajir and Faisalabad.

The Intelligence authorities registered 24 smuggled cases during May 2017. The crackdowns on the smugglers were ordered by Director General (DG ) Shouqat Ali.

Field Investigation Unit (FIU) Khushab registered six cases, Sara-e-Muhajir did four smuggled cases and Regional Office Faisalabad registered 14 smuggled cases in May.

Sources told Customs Today that Assistant Director Syed Itrat Hussain of Faisalabad Customs Intelligence is taking keen interest in curbing the smuggling activities in his jurisdiction.

It is necessary to mention here that Customs Intelligence and Investigation Faisalabad enhanced the monitoring of the transported goods to capture smuggled goods from different routes. During monitoring of goods coming from various areas, the Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) of Khushab has seized a consignment of foreign origin goods loaded on the trailer of Mazda Mini truck.

The high-ups of directorate of Intelligence and Investigation have appreciated the performance of the intelligence teams who foiled various smuggling bids in the region. The Customs Intelligence impounded smuggled items which include Nissan X Trail with No: AAN-772, Honda Reborn Registration No: LEC- 3538, Rani juice (23952-Tin packs), cigarettes of different brands (750-cartons), used air-compressor, used computer system, Kavetra brand pills, Indian origin dates (31090-Kgs), Hino Mini Truck No: TKB-402, Hino truck No: TKB-713 (Sibi), Hino truck No: TKB-701 (Sibi), Hino open truck No: SI-4223 (Sibi), Hino open truck No: SGA-021 (Nasirabad), Electronic motors (30-Nos ), F/O Bitumen in drums (57980-kgs), Hino truck No: SBA-580 (Sibi), Hino Prime Mover truck No: SBA-580 (Sibi) and other miscellaneous items brought into the country without payment of custom duty through unauthorized way.

Other Customs Superintendent Saleem Ullah, Intelligence Officer Mansoor Nasir, Muhammad Saleem, Muhammad Saddique, Irshad Ali and Sepoy Liaqat Ali, Israr Ahmed, Mussadaq Ahmed, Saifullah and UDC Muhammad Sikander also participated in the actions. The Customs Intelligence deputed its staff to intercept any smuggling attempt after receiving the information.

All the seizures have been referred to the Customs Adjudication for further legal actions.
