AKAT for KCCI role to woo Sindh govt for early LB polls

KARACHI: Perturbed over the lack of facilities and crumbling infrastructure due to the absence of local govt, the All Karachi Anjuman-e-Tajiran (AKAT) approached the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) for its help to woo the Sindh government for holding LG elections without any delay.

In this regard an AKAT delegation led by its Chairman Haroon Chand visited the KCCI to discussed the matter and evolve a strategy for the purpose. The delegation was of the view that small traders and shopkeepers all commercial markets were being suffered due to rising lawlessness, poor traffic management, massive encroachments and dilapidated infrastructure.

AKAT Chairman Haroon Chand pointed out that in time LG elections would help ensure political, financial, and administrative powers at grassroots level. He said that the presence of LG bodies ensure help effectively deal with various civic issues including cleanliness, sewerage, water supply, infrastructure development, disaster management, parking and traffic management and encroachments.

The AKAT delegation regretted that small traders of various city markets were constantly being threatened by the elements of Bhatta mafia to either fulfill their demands or face dire consequences, which has triggered extreme anxiety amongst traders and shopkeepers.

Speaking on the occasion, KCCI President Iftikhar Ahmed Vohra assured the traders of effectively highlighting their issues.
