ANKARA: A bill permitting a liquor license transfer to a Turkey Hill convenience store will be on Bethlehem City Councii’s agenda next month. During Tuesday night’s council meeting, a public hearing was held on the transfer that would permit the 1140 Hellertown Rd, location to sell alcoholic beverages. Paul Namey, an attorney with Flaherty & O’ Hara who represented Turkey Hill, told council that should the transfer garner council approval, the store would initially sell only beer, although the future could include wine by the bottle. Sales would be permitted between 7 to 2 a.m. on Mondays through Saturdays and 9 a.m. through 2 a.m. on Sunday. While Namey said there would be no change in the store’s footprint, there would be “hundreds of thousands of dollars” invested in remodeling the inside of the store.
The remodeling will include an interior seating area to accommodate 30 patrons, as required by law. There would be no table service and no amusement or games. There would be a two-beer limit in the seating area. A separate register would also be established to receive liquor only sales, separate from the store’s other cash registers, Namey said. The store would also hire one additional full-time person and two or three additional part-time individuals, who would, in addition to their other duties, would periodically step outside to monitor activity should any nefarious activities involving beer unfold outside the store. This would be in addition to the camera system the store also has reviewing parking lot activities.
