Mianwali ASO impounds vehicle & screw compressors valued Rs1.3m

MIANWALI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) Mianwali has seized smuggled old and used screw compressors (1600-Kg) worth Rs1.3million involving customs duty and taxes of Rs225000. The ASO also impounded a Mazda Mini truck valued Rs500000 during a raid.

Sources told Customs Today that Customs Collectorate Collector Muhammad Sadiq received a tip-off regarding the smuggling attempts. He formed an ASO team comprising Muhammad Umar Bhatti and Inspector Azhar Hussain Jafari, Driver Riasat Hussain, Sepoys Faiz Ahmad, Sher Ahmad and Muhammad Abdullah.

The team intercepted the Mazda Mini truck with registration No: JY-5304 under section 157 loaded with F/O used Screw Compressors modelled PDS 175 made in Japan (1600-kg) near M.M Road, Sara-e-Muhajir.

The officials asked the owner named Fazal-ur-Rehman son of Muhammad Akram and Chan Zaib son of Ali Afsar to produce the documents regarding the legal import of the goods but he failed to so.

The ASO cofiscated the goods and forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. Deputy Collector Usman Tariq has appreciated the performance of the ASO team which foiled various smuggling bids in the region.
