LAHORE: Deputy Collector of Adjudication Muhammad Hassan Farid has imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 on the owners of non-duty paid electronic appliances and ordered the officials concerned to release the goods after payment of duty and taxes.
As per details, the Customs Collectorate of Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization raided M/s Al Saad Goods Transport Company on Band Road, Lahore, and seized electronic goods, including 12 sets of foreign origin split air-conditions and 80 cartons of automatic irons of Panasonic brand made in Malaysia.
The Customs sources said that on demand the owners had failed to prove legal possession of the electronic items. However, the owners submitted a statement, seeking release of the seized goods on payment of duty and taxes.
The deputy collector decided that as there was a reason to believe that the goods were smuggled and should be seized out rightly, he fined Rs 35,000 on the owners and ordered to release the goods.
