Hyderabad Customs suffers Rs3016m deficit during last year

HYDERABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Hyderabad has collected overall Rs14441.003million customs duty and taxes against the assigned target of Rs17456.71 during the first July 2016 to FY2017. So the collectorate suffered a deficit of Rs3016million during last year.

The collectorate generated Rs3879.254million customs duty against the assigned target of Rs3250.41million while the collectorate did Rs10227.518million ST against the allocated target ofRs13801.00million.

Sources said the collectorate received Rs17.759million of federal excise duty (FED) against the earmarked target of Rs33.3million whereas Rs316.472million was collected against the target of Rs372.00million under the head of income tax during the abovementioned period.

The major sources of tax revenue remained Hyderabad Dry Port State Warehouse, Sukkur-Larkana Division, Huffaz Seamless Pipe Industries, Crescent Steel, Omni Polymer Industries, Rema Cooking Oil and Pakistan State Oil (PSO). The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) also seized non-duty-paid goods worth million of rupees.

Under the supervision of Hyderabad Customs Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq, Additional Collector (HQ) Rehmatulah Vistro, Deputy Collector Mushtaq Shahani, Principal Appraiser Mashtaq Ali Pahnwar and Statistical Revenue and others played an important role in revenue collection, officials said.

Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Hyderabad, Anti-Smuggling Organizations (ASO) Hyderabad and Sukkur and Larkana Divisions aborted various smuggling attempts and made big seizures of non-duty-paid items including vehicles, high speed diesel (HSD), cloths, fabrics, narcotics, diesel pumps, auto parts, cigarettes, mobile phones, tyres and tubes, toys, crockery, toiletries and electronic items, LED TVs, laptops, satellites, receiver laptops, car air-conditioner compressors and dry milk powder in different operations worth million of rupees during three months including April, May and June of Financial Year (FY) 2017.

Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq has ordered the officials of the Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organizations Hyderabad, Sukkur-Larkana and Jacobabad to focus on other smuggling items in addition to non-customs-paid vehicles.
