Customs Central Region posts 21pc growth in customs duty collection

LAHORE: The Customs Central Region collected Rs 49,628 million customs duty during the financial year 2016-17 against the collection target of Rs 40,870 posting a growth of 21 percent year on year.

As per details, the Customs Appraisement Lahore collected Rs 28,475 million customs duty during the period under review while the Customs Preventive Lahore collected Rs 9,058 million during the financial year 2016-17.

On the other hand, the Collectorate of Multan collected Rs 9,065 million customs duty during the financial year 2016-17. In the same way, the Collectorate of Customs Faisalabad collected Rs 3,029 million customs duty during the period under review.

Overall, the Customs Central Region collected Rs 49,628 million customs duty from all the four collectorates during the period under review, posting a growth of 21 percent against the last financial year. It was also able to post a growth of 3 percent against the financial year’s target of Rs 47,983 million.

It is necessary to mention here that Chief Collector of Customs Central Region Zeba Hai Azhar has directed the officials to adopt all necessary and legal measures to recover outstanding taxes from those who are avoiding to pay taxes.
