GWADAR: Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) FBR Gawadar has shown excellent performance against smuggling.
According to the details, the Customs team finalized 51 cases, impounded non-duty paid goods including vehicles, electronics, diesel, petrol, kerosene oil and other items worth Rs 78.3 million during the financial year 2016-17. During the financial year 2015-16, the Gwadar Customs seized miscellaneous non-duty paid smuggled goods worth Rs 50.257 million in 27 cases.
Director General Customs Intelligence and Investigations Shaukat Ali has appreciated the performance of the directorate and directed the officials to adopt zero tolerance policy towards smuggling. According to sources, in July 2016, the directorate seized goods worth Rs. 3.15 million in two cases as compared to goods worth Rs 8.750 million it seized in three cases during the same period of 2015 .
Likewise in August and September, the directorate seized goods amounting to Rs1.050 million in one case and in September Rs. 3.390 million in 3 cases as compared to Rs 2.1 million during the same period in 2015. In October and November 2016 directorate seized goods worth Rs 3.850 million and 4.300 million in two and four cases as compared to Rs 0.675 million in the same months of 2015 .
In December 2016 and January 2017 Directorate made seizures worth Rs.4.200 million and Rs.5.250 million in I and 5 cases while during same period in FY 2015-16 no case had been made by directorate. In February, March, April, May and June 2017 directorate seized goods worth Rs.4.750 million, 5.650 million, 14.700 million, 22.800 million and 5.250 million in 4,4,5, 15 and 5 cases.
