If Mr Khawaja is appointed on the post, there are great chances that two important cases would be reopened or re-investigated, the sources added. On August 19, 2007, fire broke out at a 15-storey Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) building in which a large number of important documents relating to the KPT and the PNSC were destroyed, the sources said.

The sources also revealed that another case relating to disappearance of 19,000 containers carrying arms from ports would also be investigated to bring to book the suspects behind the incident. The authorities concern have presented the names of four officers, including Mr Khawaja, to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who will select the chairman.
