Challan submitted against suspects booked in 873 mobiles smuggling case

KARACHI: Shabbir Ahmed, Officer of Intelligence and Investigation-FBR, submitted an interim callan against the absconding accused named Shahid and Azmat booked in an attempt to smuggle non-duty-paid foreign origin 873 mobile phones.

Investigation officer informed the court that, on a tip-off, private cargo van of Shalimar Cargo Group, Millat Express (E8-DN), was briefly checked/inspected by the officials of the Customs Department which resulted in the recovery of five cartons containing foreign origin smart mobile phone sets of Samsung, IPhone, Motorola, HTC and LG Brands valued Rs26million approximately and duty and taxes were involved amounting to Rs04.4million.

He further informed the court that after the formalities, said mobile phones were seized which was allegedly the property of said accused persons. However both suspects are absconders so far.

Investigation officer further submitted that the Customs Department will produce them before the court after their arrest.

A case was registered for violation of Section 2 (s) Section 16 of Customs Act-1969 punishable under clauses (8) & (89) of sub section (1) read with sub-section (2) of Section 156 ibid.
