COLOMBO: Sri Lanka’s cabinet of ministers had given the nod to build two 500 MegaWatt dual fuel power plants capable of burning liquefied petroleum gas with India, the state information office said.
The cabinet had given the nod for letter of intent to be issued to India and Japan for the two power plants on a government-to-government basis. Sri Lanka’s current administration scrapped a planned 500MW coal power plant with India in Trincomalee, which would have reduced electricity costs in the island. Sri Lanka wants to become an industrial exporter.
