HYDERABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate has enhanced the checking on the main routes of the city. Due to these strict measures, the customs authorities foiled many attempts of smuggling.

Sources told Customs Today that, during two separate operations, the ASO Hyderabad teams impounded smuggled Non-Duty-Paid 55,000 liters of Iranian diesel (HSD) and two oil tankers worth Rs8.3million. During eight days of July 2017-18, diesel was being transported from Karachi to interior Sindh and Punjab.

Sources said that Collector Hyderabad Customs Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq received a tip-off that some smugglers were trying to smuggle Iranian diesel (HSD). He immediately constituted a Customs Preventive team comprising Superintendent Ghulam Shabbir Phulpoto Inspectors Imdad Ali Abro, Muhammad Abid Khan, Abdul Majid Barich, Mushtaq Ali Lakho, Sepoys Nenomal, Luqman, Abdul Razaq, Saddiq Khaskheli, Sarwar Ayoub, Drivers Sher Akbar, Ajaz Saddam, Jawaid Mashkoor and Nisar Ahemdani.

The customs team established some checking points at the main entry and exit points of the Super Highway Hyderabad. During the checking of the vehicles, customs team intercepted a oil tanker with registration No: TTC-953. The customs team recovered smuggled 25,000 liters of Iranian diesel (HSD) along with an oil tanker. The market value of the seized diesel is worth Rs5.9million.

Prior to the recovery, the customs team asked the driver of the vehicle for producing the legal documents regarding the possession of the vehicle and transportation of the diesel but he failed to provide any relevant documents.

Meanwhile, another oil tanker was impounded by the Hyderabad ASO which was filled with smuggled non-duty-paid 30,000 liters of Iranian diesel (HSD). The value of the oil tanker is Rs2.4million. The tanker was impounded following a tip-off received through MCC Hyderabad Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq.

Sources told CT that the Anti-Smuggling Organization intercepted the tanker bearing registration No: TTA-923 and asked the driver for show relevant documents of the diesel and oil tanker but he could not do the same. So the officials impounded the diesel oil tanker and registered a case against the accused under the customs bylaws.

MCC Hyderabad Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq and Additional Collector Rehmatulah Vistro have appreciated the performance of their subordinates.
