ROCKLAND: Over 60 pounds of hydroponic marijuana was intercepted by U.S. Customs from Canada to three locations in Rockland, according to the Rockland County sheriff’s office.
The drugs are valued at about $300,000, the sheriff’s office said. About $10,000 in US and Canadian currency was also recovered.
Two Rockland residents — 39-year-old Meifeng Pan-Zheng and 45-year-old Pan Fei — believed to be responsible for the large shipment were arrested Thursday, the sheriff’s office said.
Pan-Zheng was charged with first-degree marijuana, a felony. Fei was charged with first-degree marijuna and two counts of first-degree criminal possession of a marijuana.
Both suspects were arraigned and remanded to Rockland County jail on $10,000 bail.
Meifeng Pan-Zheng, 39, was arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 60 pounds of marijuana into Rockland.
Several law enforcement agencies were involved in the seizure and arrests including; the Rockland sheriff’s office, Rockland County Intelligence Center, Department of Homeland Security, the New Jersey Palisades Interstate Parkway Police, Ramapo police, South Nyack police, Piermont police and Suffern police.
