Deputy Collector Adjudication declares seizure of fork lifter legal

LAHORE: Deputy Collector Customs Adjudication Hassan Farid issued Order-in-Original No. 198/2017, declaring the seizure of non-duty paid fork lifter as legal.

According to the details, that Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization, during routine checking, intercepted the fork lifter on July 13, 2016. The owner of the vehicle, who was identified as Zafar Iqbal, had failed to produce any documents regarding legal import of fork lifter.

The Customs ASO team impounded the vehicle and forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication. However, during the proceedings no one turned up to defend the allegations.

The ASO department representative attended all the hearings and argued that since it is a smuggled vehicle it falls under Section 2(s) automatically. No one came to defend the case and no documents were provided to confirm the legal import of the vehicle, the charges framed by the ASO Lahore apparently stand established. After reviewing all the facts, the Deputy Collector Adjudication Mohammad Hasan Farid issued ONO in favour of Customs ASO and declared seizure of fork lifter as legal.
