LAHORE: Deputy Collector Customs Adjudication has issued an Order-in-Original (ONO) No. 199/2017, directing the authorities to release the goods after payment of redemption fine of 20 percent.
According to the details, Superintendent, Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) along with his team intercepted a Mazda mini truck bearing registration no: LXK-7539 near Saggian Bridge, Bund Road loaded with foreign origin wallpapers. On query, the person on the driving seat, who was identified as Muhammad Waqas, failed to produce any legal documents regarding transportation and possession of the wallpapers.
The ASO team seized the wallpapers and forwarded the case to the Customs Adjudication. During the proceedings, the owner told that he is willing to pay all duties and taxes according to law. The Deputy Collector Customs Adjudication Mohammad Hassan Farid taking a lenient view under Section 181 of the Customs Act, 1969 gave an option to the claimant to redeem the goods on payment of redemption fine equal to 20 percent of the value along with duty and taxes leviable thereon in terms of Section 156 (1) 90 of the Customs Act, 1969.
