Deputy Collector Adjudication issues show cause notice to owner of non-duty paid goods

LAHORE: Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Mohammad Hassan Farid has issued a show cause notice to the owner of non-duty paid goods after receiving a Contravention Report No. 89/2017.

According to the details, the staff of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization intercepted one Muhammad Ghous outside M/s Quetta Pak Aghan Goods Transport Company. On query, he provided a bilty No. 06953 issued by the goods transport company, showing transportation of material from Lahore to Quetta with sender’s name as Armesh Kumar.

During the checking, the ASO team recovered 9,900 packets of foreign origin cigarettes of Pine brand. The ASO team asked the representative of the goods transport company to show legal documents regarding lawful possession of cigarettes, but he failed to provide any relevant documents. There were, thus sufficient reasons to believe that the examined were smuggled and had been brought into the country in violation of the law.

The ASO team seized the cigarettes under section 168 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969 for contravention of the provisions of Section 2(s) & 16 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under clause (89) of the Section 156 (1) ibid read with Section 3 (1) & (3) of the Imports & Exports (Control) Act, 1950 further read with SRO 499(I)2009 dated 13.6.2009 and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings.

Now Deputy Collector Muhammad Hassan Farid issued a show cause notice to the owner of the cigarettes asking him to appear on 20.7.2017 at 11 a.m. in the office of Deputy Collector Adjudication Air Freight Unit Cargo Complex, Allama Iqbal International Airport to explain his position.
