WASHINGTON: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers recently seized a significant amount of alleged cocaine, crystal methamphetamine and heroin carrying an estimated street value of more than $1,000,000 in two enforcement actions over the weekend. “Being vigilant at all times is a key component ingrained into our officers,” said Port Director Gregory Alvarez, Laredo Port of Entry. “I commend the officers for their keen observational skills and for their hard work and commitment to keeping dangerous drugs off of our streets.” The first seizure occurred on Saturday, July 22 at the Lincoln-Juarez International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2014 Chevy Trax driven by a 58-year-old-male Mexican citizen from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to secondary for further inspection. A non-intrusive imaging (NII) system, canine, and physical inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery of 10 packages allegedly containing a total of 25 pounds of cocaine. The cocaine carries an estimated street value of $196,180.
The last seizure occurred on Saturday, July 22 at the Lincoln-Juarez International Bridge when a CBP officer referred a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban driven by a 27-year-old-male Mexican citizen from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico for further inspection. A non-intrusive imaging (NII) system, canine, and physical inspection by CBP officers resulted in the discovery 31 packages allegedly containing 48 pounds of crystal methamphetamine and one pound of heroin. Both seizures combined carry an estimated street value of $1,183,612. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicles. Both drivers were arrested and the cases were turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement-Homeland Security Investigations (ICE-HSI) special agents for further investigation.
