LAHORE: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Regional Tax Office (RTO) Broadening Tax Base (BTB) Unit has issued 111 notices to different companies and people with taxable income to pay taxes.

An official at BTB said that these notices were issued to the tax defaulters that have not paid their taxes timely. He said that concerned authorities of BTB have decided to take action against the non-filers as the FBR was facing difficulty in achieving the target of current fiscal year. Sources said that authorities have directed all inspectors to serve notices to the non-filers by hand instead of using post.

The official sources said that in case the taxpayers fail to deposit their due taxes, their properties and moveable assets would be attached to recover the tax payments.

On the other hand, some taxpayers complained that the department was serving the notices even to the dutiful taxpayers. Taxpayers urged the department to send notices to only non-filers.
