KARACHI: The Customs Exports authorities have successfully collected Rs 38.12m tax during the month of July 2017.
Sources told Customs Today that Customs Exports issued 11 show cause notices out of which eight final notices were served on defaulter companies. The Customs Exports issued show cause notices to two factories in order to collect the evaded tax amount. The customs authorities issued notices to M/s Sodaba Garments Karachi and M/s Umme Hani Handicrafts Karachi.

Checking the data during the end of June, the Customs Exports found the company using the wrong PCT heading. After detecting the tax evasion, the customs authorities issued a show-cause notice no: 187/2017 to recover the evaded tax amount.
Meanwhile, the Customs Exports uncovered another tax evasion committed by M/s Umme Hani Handicrafts Karachi in a consignment of marble handicrafts in the last month. The customs authorities, after careful investigations, served show-cause notices on the companies and asked them for submitting the evaded tax amount within fortnight.
M/s Umme Hani Handicrafts Karachi used the wrong Pakistan Custom Tariff (PCT) heading to get its handicrafts items consignment cleared and caused the national exchequer a loss of Rs7.9million.
