Customs Court approves physical remand of suspect in diesel smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent a suspect, Raj Malook, to the Customs Department on physical remand in a case of attempting to smuggle 15, 000 liter smuggled high speed diesel.

During the hearing, investigation officer produced the suspect before the court and submitted that on July 26, 2017, a Customs team intercepted a Nissan High Wall dumper truck bearing registration number no: TAG-778 at Main Road Banaras, Karachi and recovered 15, 000 liter diesel.

He further informed the court that during the search, driver was asked to produce legal documents, however, he failed to produce any lawful documents, therefore, the said oil and truck were seized.

After the hearing, court sent him to customs department and directed investigation officer to produce him on next date of hearing along with progress report.

According to the prosecution, case was registered for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 157 (2) & 178 of the Customs Act 1969 punishable under clauses (8) (9) & (89) of Sub-Section (1) read with Sub-Section (2) of the section 156 of the Customs Act 1969.
