SHC seeks remarks from tax dept on petition filed by M/s SQ Corporation

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has directed the customs authorities to file their respective para wise comments on a constitutional petition filed by M/s SQ Corporation, seeking restoration order of its sales tax registration number suspended by customs authorities due to its alleged involvement in tax evasion.

A two-member bench, comprising Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Yousaf Ali Saeed, was hearing the petition.

Earlier, counsel for the petitioner stated that it is lawful engaged in the business of import and export and fulfills all the liabilities properly and never involved in any tax evasion case.

According to the petitioner, he was informed by customs authorities that sales tax registration number has been suspended by the customs officials alleging that petitioner is involved in tax evasion, he argued that suspension order was passed without any intimation notice, sales tax registration number was suspended unlawfully and without lawful authorities.

Citing Secretary Ministry of Finance, chief commissioner Inland Revenue, Corporate Regional Tax Office Karachi and the commissioner Inland Revenue Zone-I, Corporate Regional Tax Office Karachi as respondents, he pleaded the court to declare that act of the respondents as illegal, mala fide and arbitrary, counsel further pleaded court to restore its sales tax registration number immediately.
