FBR Chairman Pasha hails performance of Customs Intelligence and investigation

ISLAMABAD: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Tariq Mehmood Pasha has paid a surprise visit to headquarters of the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and investigation (I&I) Islamabad

Director General Shaukat Ali welcomed the chairman and briefed him on the performance of his department. Ali told the chairman that the directorate seized goods worth Rs 8.11 billion during the last financial year (2016-17) which was a record. He said that during the financial year 2015-16, the department seized goods worth Rs 5.6 billion.

He also informed the chairman that the directorate detected the cases of money laundering as well as duty and tax evasion of Rs 6.36 billion. Shaukat Ali also introduced officers and the other staff members to the chairman who lauded their performance and hoped that directorate will continue to show the same performance.

The chairman urged the officers that they should work with honesty and integrity in the interest of the country. Smuggling is one of the major and important issues, which is damaging Pakistan’s economy and also causing huge losses to the national exchequer.

Customs Intelligence and Investigation expedited the operations against smuggling and illegal trade. Chairman assured Director General that FBR will resolve the problems of the Directorate. Chairman also visited the museum of the Directorate General and praised the establishing of a museum.
