Digital cameras of various brands & sizes impounded by Customs Preventive Sukkur

HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Customs Preventive Sukkur, has seized the smuggling digital cameras of different brands & sizes and also old &used valued at Rs01.3million including duties and taxes during an action at a checkpost of Jacobabad in Sukkur division during 10 days of August 2017/18.

Sources told Customs Today that Additional Collector Rehmatulah Vistro received a tip-off regarding the smuggling of foreign origin goods. He formed a team comprising Assistant Collector Mumtaz Ali Ghangro, In-Charge checkpost Jacobabad, Inspectors Aziz Ahmed Katpar, Nasrullah Gilan, Rahib Ali Abro, Nazir Ahmed, Hidayatullah Abro, Sepoys Dhani Bux, Shabir Ahmed Bhutto, Ayzaz Bhutto, Khlil Ahmed, Driver Manzoor Mashori and other staff.

The ASO team intercepted a private vehicle near Jacobabad checkpost and recovered smuggled non-duty-paid four parcels, 565 pieces of digital cameras of different brands and sizes which were also old & used. The impounded items’ market value is Rs847500 involving duties and taxes amounting to Rs545790.

Prior to the recovery of said items, the team asked the driver to produce the documents regarding the legal import of the items but he could not prove legality of the goods.

The team impounded the items under section of the Customs Act. A case was registered against the accused. The case has been sent to the customs adjudication for further legal action.

The ASO deposited the confiscated goods into the Sukkur State Warehouse.

Officials said that Hyderabad Customs Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq had directed that effective measures should be taken for curbing the smuggling in the region. They added that the anti-smuggling officials have enhanced the vigilance on the roads to keep an eye on the movement of the smuggling items and vehicles.
