Faisalabad Customs Intelligence collects evaded tax, release consignments

Smuggling thru transhipment: Customs Intelligence forms JIT for investigation

KARACHI: Directorate General of Customs Intelligence & Investigation has constituted a joint investigation team (JIT) to investigate a smuggling incident through of transshipment.

The four-member JIT team, headed by Customs Intelligence’s Rawalpindi region Additional Director Abdul Waheed Marwat, while other members include Deputy/Assistant Director (in-charge ASO), Karachi; Superintendent Saleemullah Khan and Intelligence Officer Akmal Hashmi, will also have five assistants. Deputy Director Afzal Ahmad Watto, Superintendent Tariq Rafiq, Intelligence Officers Yawar Abbas, Hameed Bhatti and Mohammad Saleem will assist the JIT.

The team would submit investigation reports to director general of Customs Intelligence after every 15 days.

Sources said that Customs Intelligence Director General Shaukat Ali issued direction of investigation after disappearance of M/s KK Metal Industry’s consignment at Sambrial Dry Port Trust, Sialkot. The incident was emerged when an imported consignment’s container No PONU-0673711 was caught while being cleared through transit pass No KAPW-TP-24953 at Model Customs Collectorate Appraisement Karachi.

The investigation team would try to disclose the real quantity of consignments have been cleared at the Sambrial Dry Port

It is worth mentioning here that the consignment, which was transported from Sialkot Dry Port for clearance, was to be got emptied and refilled in Karachi under goods declaration and would be cleared from the said port. The consignment was loaded with huge quantity of mobile phones and electronic items, which would be sold in Karachi but caught by the Customs Intelligence timely.
