ATIR Chairman Nazir Ahmed set to leave for Hajj

ISLAMABAD: Appellate Tribunal Inland Revenue (ATIR) Chairman Nazir Ahmed is set to leave for Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj, te tribunals officials said.

The chairman would stay there around six weeks before returning to Pakistan and then will take charge of the tribunal’s affairs.

During last week, the chairman had visited tribunal’s headquarters in Islamabad and had heard around eight cases. Te chairman, who had reached Islamabad, also headed administrative affairs at the tribunal besides hearing tax matters.

According to tribunal’s officials, chairman held hearing of cases in capital for couple of days before leaving for Peshawar.

Chairman headed a division bench including Account Member Dr Ghulam Mujtaba Bhatti. However, the bench adjourned hearing on majority of matters.

Earlier, the tribunal had heard the matter filed by M/s Pakistan Telecommunication Mobile Limited case. It had filed the case contesting a show cause notice issued by the field offices of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).

According to details, M/S Pak Telecom Mobile Limited had challenged recovery notice issued to it in head of outstanding income tax by the LTU, Islamabad.

Pakistan Telecom Mobile Limited had submitted the department had issued the demand for the tax year 2013 in head of income tax under provisions of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.

Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), officers of LTU including commissioner Inland Revenue, commissioner Inland Revenue (Appeals) and ATIR.

According to officials, the chairman would return to the capital after couple of months since he was leaving for abroad in coming week.
