Deputy Collector Adjudication orders confiscation of Honda Civic

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Adjudication Deputy Collector Mohammad Hassan Farid has issued Order-in-Original (ONO) 237/2017.

According to the details, Anti Smuggling Organization vide seizure case no: 76/2017 dated 28.4.2017 are that, pursuant to an information on 4.4.2017 the anti-smuggling staff intercepted a Honda Accord car bearing registration no: NV-542 (Islamabad) opposite Moon Market, Allama Iqbal Town Lahore. The person available on the driving seat claimed the ownership of the above said car and introduced himself as Ahsan Rehman son of Abdul Rehman Malik, resident of House No. 148, Hunza Block, Allama Iqbal Town, Lahore. On demand the said owner failed to provide any documentary evidence showing legal import and possession of the vehicle.

After his failure Customs anti smuggling squad impounded the vehicle and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication department .

Deputy Collector Hassan Farid issued a show cause notice to the owner of the non duty Honda Civic car. However, no one turned up to defend the allegations. The departmental representative also failed to attend even any single hearing.  As the vehicle in question is smuggled one which automatically falls under Section 2(s) of the Customs Act 1969. Further the chassis number of the above said has been tempered. As no one came from respondent side to defend the case and no documents were provided to confirm the legal import of the vehicle, the charges framed by the Anti Smuggling Organization apparently stands established. After examining the whole case Deputy Collector declared the confiscation of Honda Civic car as legal.
