LAGOS: The Port Harcourt Area 1 Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), said that it generated N2.98 billion into the Federal Government coffers in August this year. The command also disclosed that the amount surpassed the monthly revenue target with N300 million for the month under review. Ngozi Okwara, Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) in a statement said that that despite the lull in port business, the command was still able to meet and surpass its target.

Okwara, hinted that the command had been consistent towards surpassing its monthly target. Okwara added that apart from the revenue drive, the command had also embarked on capacity development programme for officers, stating that the Area One Command has undergone a new face lift as the structures have been refurbished. “Despite the challenges of low importation through the port, the area command whose statutory function includes collection of revenue (through Import/Excise Duties and other Taxes/Levies) and accounting for same has been able to surpass its monthly target.”, she said.
