Customs court adjourns hearing of 14-kg gold smuggling case by next week

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has received an investigation challan of the case of 14-kg gold smuggling and adjourned it for next week.

Earlier, customs court directed the investigation team to present the record before the court. After that customs team presented the investigation challan of the case. The customs court strictly ordered the IO to present the challan in 14 days in every condition.

Earlier, the court extended a 14-day judicial remand of an accused Muhammad Riaz in a notorious case of 14 kilogram gold smuggling.

Accused Muhammad Riaz was arrested by the customs authorities after the rejection of a pre-arrest bail plea by the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Accused Muhammad Riaz is the main accused in the smuggling of huge quantity of gold into Dubai.

Customs authorities apprehended two female suspects involved in the smuggling of 14-kg gold and currencies from Multan International Airport.

The customs authorities at the Multan International Airport recovered 14-kg gold worn by two females in their hands as bangles (Kara) and anklets (Pazaib) along with 39,000 Saudi riyals and United Arab Emirates Dirham. The Multan Customs had seized the gold and foreign currencies worth Rs64.6million and lodged an FIR against both women on the charges of smuggling and money laundering.

Accused Muhammad Riaz was in the custody of customs investigation on a physical remand. At the start of the month, he was produced before the court of Masood Arshad from where he sent him to jail on judicial trial.

Another accused of the case, Mazhar Hussain, is still at large.
