Customs Court sends suspect on physical remand in diesel smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent a suspect namely Abdul Samad to customs department on physical remand for three days for attempting to smuggle non-duty paid 20,000 liter of Iranian high speed diesel worth Rs 1,540,000.

During the hearing, investigation officer produced the suspect before the court and informed that a customs team intercepted a suspected Hino trailer bearing registration number TLR-071 and recovered 20,000 liter of Iranian origin non-duty paid diesel. The trailer was heading towards, Karachi from Hub Chowki.

He submitted that prosecution needs further investigation from suspect, therefore, the court may send him back on physical remand. After the hearing, the court sent back the suspect to customs department on physical remand and directed the investigation officer to produce him on the next date of hearing along with progress report.

According to the prosecution, case was registered against suspect for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 157 (2) of the customs act, 1969, punishable under section (1) read with sub-section (2) of section 156 ibid.
