KARACHI: The Customs Exports has served 12 show cause notices on tax defaulters and tax evaders for recovery of dues during the first 26 days of September.
Sources told reporter that Custom Exports issued notices to 12 companies including M/s Shah Suleman Traders, Najia Steel Works and Tufail Enterprises. Source said M/s Shah Suleman Traders used wrong Pakistan Customs Tariff (PCT) headings to get two consignments of imported bed-sheet sets cleared on August 27 and caused the national treasury a loss of Rs2.12million.
During the scrutiny of the import data, the Customs Exports detected the misuse of PCT heading for which it was issued with a show-cause notice No: 216/2017 for paying the evaded amounts of tax and duty.
Meanwhile, the Customs Exports unearthed another tax evasion committed by M/s Najia Steel works who got cleared a consignment of steel pot and kitchen accessories. The customs authorities, after a careful investigation, served a show cause notice on the company and asked it to deposit the evaded tax amounts within fortnight.
Tufail Enterprises cleared one consignment of leather shoes and used wrong Pakistan Customs Tariff. The custom authorities issued a show cause notice and mentioned to submit all the documents for consignment soon.
