AMMAN: The Inca citadel of Machu Picchu entered a twinning agreement with ancient Nabataean Petra City (Jordan) to strengthen cooperation ties and promote permanent cultural exchange between them. The document bears the signatures of Peru’s Culture Minister Salvador del Solar and Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) Chief Commissioner Mohammad Abbas Nawafleh. The agreement provides that conferences and meetings shall be held to discuss issues of importance to both parties. Both Machu Pichu and Petra are expected to share printed and digital information about each place. They are also required to hold informative sessions aimed at youth, students and families. Another key piece in the deal is the promotion of community-based activities including customs and traditions of the sites. Moreover, the two sister citadels will cooperate to organize familiarization visits in a bit to foster mutual knowledge and understanding of their cultures.
