Customs Intelligence to monitor goods transport companies in Gujranwala division to curb smuggling

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence officials have chalked out a foolproof plan to monitor the activities of the goods transport companies in Gujranwala  Division’s all the six districts, including Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din , Hafizabad and Gujranwala.

According to the senior officials of Customs Intelligence, this direly needed step is being taken following the involvement of the various goods transport companies in smuggling of the goods and other valuables.  They said that the people from Rawalpindi, Peshawar and other parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhawah were booking their goods through these goods transport companies, as these articles were coming under the smuggling.

They disclosed that the smugglers were smuggling the valuables including auto parts, computer parts, imported clothes, tyres, tea, mobile phones, LCDs, LEDs etc from Afghanistan and they further send these smuggled valuables after booking them for different districts of the Punjab through the goods transport companies. The special teams of the Customs Intelligence have started checking these goods transport companies. The officials revealed that the goods transport companies if found indulged in such kind of smuggling would be brought to task.

Meanwhile, the owners of the goods transport companies have expressed grave concern over this step by the Customs Intelligence. They said that they were not doing any illegally activity or nor the management of any goods transport company was involved in smuggling.
