Collector Ajaz declares seizure of foreign currency as legal

ISLAMABAD: Collector Adjudication Dr Ajaz Qureshi has ordered the confiscation of 100,000 Saudi Riyals and 100,000 UAE dirham, which were recovered from a passenger at Torkham border. The collector passed an Order in Original (ONO) No. 138 of 2017 in seizure of foreign currency case No. 27/2017.

According to details, the money was recovered from a passenger named Jaidadullah at Torkham Customs Station while he was leaving for Afghanistan. The passenger had tactfully concealed the foreign currency in a plastic bag. On demand, he could not produce any documentary evidence regarding the recovered foreign currency.

The accused was arrested on the spot and an FIR No. 51/2017 had been lodged against him under the relevant provisions of law. The collector adjudication said in ONO, despite having been granted opportunity of hearing no one attended the hearing proceedings on behalf of the Jaidadullah nor any written reply to the show cause notice, was received. Therefore, he said, on the basis of facts and evidence available on record and all legal formalities stand fulfill, the charges leveled against the jaidadullah stand established, the money is confiscated under clauses (8) & (89) of section 156 (1) of the Customs Act, 1969.
