Customs Court approves physical remand of alleged cloth smuggler

LAHORE: The Special Federal Court of Customs Taxation and Anti-Smuggling has handed over a suspect to the customs authorities on physical remand of two days. The Customs Court also directed the authorities to complete investigation within the given time and produce the accused before the customs court on Thursday for further proceeding.

Sources told Customs Today that Juma Khan was arrested by the customs team on charges of cloth smuggling.  After arresting the accused, the customs team started investigation against him and got his physical remand as well. The Customs Intelligence has also recovered a huge quantity of foreign made smuggled cloth and related goods from him.

The Customs intelligence said the court that the accused was involved in smuggling of cloth from different countries to Shadman market of Lahore and Faisalabad via different routes. He had caused huge losses to the national kitty in the wake of taxes and duties. He was involved in smuggling for long time.

After completion of two days physical remand he will again be presented before the court for further proceeding. Customs Intelligence and Investigation department has registered a case against him under Pakistan Customs Act of 1969.
