Customs Preventive Hyderabad seizes 105,000 sachets of Gutka, 200 kg of cashew

HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Customs Preventive Hyderabad, has confiscated foreign origin 20 tin packs, 200 kg of smuggling cashew (Kajou) and contraband items of 20 PP bags, 105000 sachets of Gutka of Safina brand made in India worth Rs01.1million including duties and taxes during a raid in the month of September 2017-18. The goods were recovered from a vehicle of M/s Ghaffar Azeem Goods Transport Hyderabad.

Following the direction of Model Customs House Hyderabad Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq, the ASO team is carrying out various operations in the region to frustrate the smuggling attempts.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Hyderabad Akhlaq Ahmad Khattak received a tip-off regarding the smuggling attempt. He formed an ASO team comprising Superintendent, Inspectors, Sepoys, Driver and other staff.

The ASO team intercepted a vehicle near M/s Ghaffar Goods Transport Company Hyderabad and recovered abovementioned items. Prior to the recovery, the team asked the driver to show the legal documents regarding the possession of the goods, but he failed to do so.

The team confiscated smuggling Gutka and cashew which involved duties and taxes amounting toRs01.1million. The ASO made a seizure report and deposited the items into Hyderabad State Warehouse.

Collector Customs Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq advised the officials of the ASO to adopt a zero tolerance against the smugglers who are out to destroy the legal business of the city.

Officials said all possible measures will be taken to arrest the smugglings in the region as vigilance has also been boosted.
