LHC seeks reply on extra sales tax on petroleum products

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) seeks reply from the federal government and Oil and Gas Regularity Authority (OGRA) in case filed against the extra sales tax on the petroleum products.

According to the details, Lahore High Court (LHC) heard the appeal filed by the appellant Azher Saddique advocate against the extra sales tax on the petroleum products.

Appellant filed intra-court appeal in the Lahore High Court (LHC) that besides the lower in prices of petroleum products in international market the prices in Pakistan are still high. Adding more that government has collecting 55 percent sales taxes on petroleum products instead of 17 percent.

Further said, instead of decreasing oil prices federal government has charged 3 percent more sales tax so as the sales tax adding the prices of petroleum products rise.

Appellant argued that OGRA is charging extra sales tax on petroleum products without getting approval from. He appeal that court may declare notification in this regard as null and void. After listening the arguments Lahore High Court issued notice to attorney general.
