Clearance of import consignments resumes as appraising officials end strike

KARACHI: After getting the assurance from Customs high-ups, appraising officers have finally decided to end their strike.

A committee headed by Collector Port Qasim Saeed Akram and two additional collectors Saeed Wattoo and Sanaullah Abro held talks with appraising officers who were represented by their action committee members including Irshad Shah, Sultan Aurungzeb, Dost Mohammad, Javed Khalid, Qasim Sheikh and Noor Ilahi.

While Collector Preventive Iftikhar Ahmad, Collector Shahnaz Maqbool and Director Post Clearance Audit (PCA) Mohammad Saleem also played important role to get the strike ended.

Sources told Customs Today that appraiser Dost Mohammad constantly remained in touch with chief collector Abdul Rashid Sheikh and other officers to agree them to fullfill demands of appraising and assessment officers. The Chief Collector had assured that no disciplinary action would be taken against officials participated in the strike.

Earlier appraising officers announced strike against harsh attitude of high officials of Appraisement South especially Additional Collector who wanted to depute persons of his own choice.
