Appraisers called off strike after assurance: Raja Waseem

KARACHI: Customs Employees Union Vice President Raja Waseem has said that appraisers strike did not put any negative impact on the national economy. All importers consignments were cleared who had deposited duties.

Talking to Customs Today, Raja Waseem agreed that clearance of consignments were halted due to appraisers strike and there was no movement at PICT, KICT and KPT from Friday to mid Monday. He said that appraisers are  against corruption and they will extend full support to customs high-ups to end cope with this issue.

Raja Waseem said that that appraisers submitted their demands to customs high ups in which they are asking to grant them leave on Saturday, Sunday and specially on Eid days. He said that due to work load appraisers have to work beyond their official duty hours and for this purpose they are  not getting any allowance.

He said that there is ban on attending phone during duty hours, Raja Waseem said this is totally illogical. He said that due to this restriction appraisers are unable to get in touch with their family members and this also put a negative impact on their performance.

He said that Chief Collector Appraisement South Abdul Rashid Shaikh always interfere in their official duties and he used harsh language against them. Raja Waseem alleged that Chief Collector Abdul Rashid attitude towards appraisers is quite negative. He said that examining officials should be paid off dock terminal allowance at the earliest.

He said that appraisers should be paid allowances for customs tariffs, and others issue. He said that no appraisers should be nominated in FIR without taking prior approval from fact finding committee. He said that we also sought assurance that IDs of examination staff will not be blocked. He said that a joint committee is constituted to settle all issues of appraisers and other staff members. He said that we are restricted to talk to media about . He said that joint committee is making is final proposes about the demands of appraisers.
