LAHORE: Customs Preventive and Airport Security Force has foiled an attempt to smuggle currency and gold at Allama Iqbal International airport.
Sources told Customs Today on Thursday that a passenger Haris Mehmood who was going to Turkey via an international airline, but was held during checking at the airport following recovery of currency and two biscuits of gold worth Rs 1 million.
The accused has been shifted to unidentified place for interrogation and a case has been registered against him. The Customs team has registered a case against the accused under Pakistan Customs Act 1969.
The Customs team will present the accused before the Court of Customs Taxation and Anti Smuggling on Friday (today) for obtaining his physical remand for further investigations and prosecution under Pakistan Customs Act of 1969.
Number of currency and gold smuggling cases has been registered in last two months. Customs Preventive has foiled many smuggling attempts at Allama Iqbal international airport and has recovered millions of Dollars and gold that were being attempted to smuggle from Lahore to other countries in last two month.
