The accused, Rauf, was nominated in an investigation regarding illegal sales tax refunds and he has been charged for sanctioning fake sales tax refunds to the business firms that never existed. Such refunds were initiated, processed and sanctioned against fake and bogus invoices by the FBR officials in connivance with each other, which resulted in loss to national exchequer to the tune of Rs 120 million, NAB stated.

It is pertinent to mention that NAB Karachi has already filed eight references in Accountability Courts against the scam of illegal tax refunds worth around Rs 700 million.
