WASHINGTON: Following the closure of COSCO Shipping Ports’ agreement to acquire a majority stake in Noatum Points, the Chinese state-owned company has begun installing a new management team. Kai Sun, who has previously managed several terminals in China as well as being former chief operating officer at Piraeus Container Terminal, is set to become the new CEO of Noatum Ports. Wei Zhang, current executive director, chair of the board and general director of COSCO Shipping Ports, will be the next president of Noatum Ports.

Current managing director, Douglas Schultz, will retain his functions for some months to support the transition process, acting as an advisor to the new management team. Subsequently, he will continue to be a member of the board of Noatum Ports and managing director of Noatum Maritime. Noatum Ports has interests in Bilbao (Noatum Container Terminal Bilbao) and Valencia (Noatum Container Terminal Valencia) as well as operating two inland terminals: the intermodal terminal at Puerto Seco de Coslada, Madrid (Conterail) and Noatum Rail Terminal Zaragoza.Meanwhile, Noatum Maritime has just completed the acquisition of Noatum Ports terminals in Barcelona, Malaga, Sagunto and Santander as it looks to focus on multipurpose, roll-on roll-off (ro-ro) and bulk operations. These terminals are now part of Noatum Terminals, the subsidiary of Noatum Maritime regrouping all its participations in port operations and one of the three business units of the Group (alongside Noatum Maritime Services and Noatum Logistics). Following this transaction, Oscar Rodriguez has joined Noatum Maritime as chief commercial officer.
