Appraisement East recovers evaded tax of Rs 4.78m from M/s Hanif Furniture & Co

KARACHI: The Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement East has unearthed tax evasion of Rs 4.78 million in the clearance of mattress and its covered sheets imported by M/s Hanif Furniture and Co.

Source told Customs Today that Collector Appraisement East Ashadd Jawwad directed the R&D section to verify the post clearance consignment of the importer M/s Hanid Furniture. During the scrutiny, it was found that the importer willfully used the Green Channel in the clearance of a consignment of mattress and its covered sheets and caused the national exchequer a loss of Rs 4.78 million in terms of duties and taxes.

The sources further told that a recovery notice has been sent to the importer. The R&D sources said that the importer has also assured that it will deposit the evaded amount of Rs 4.78 million within seven days.

Earlier Customs Collectorate of the Appraisement East has unearthed the tax evasion of Rs 3.26million in the clearance of medical accessories imported by M/s Safina & Co.

Source said more than 18 cases are under investigation and there is possibility that during the month of November Collector Appraisement East Ashadd Jawwad will issue more notices for recovery.
