ASO Sukkur takes into possession 1,470-kg of contraband China art silk

HYDERABAD: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Customs Preventive Sukkur, Dera Morr Jacobabad, has impounded foreign origin 1.09 CP bundles, 136 rolls, 6,797 yards and1,470 kg of smuggling ladies art silk cloth made in China worth Rs03.1million including duties and taxes during an action at Dera Morr near customs check-post Jacobabad in October  2017-18. Following direction of Model Customs House Hyderabad Collector Akhlaq Ahmad Khattaq, the ASO team is executing various operations in the region to thwart the smuggling bids.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Hyderabad Akhlaq Ahmad Khattak received a tip-off regarding the smuggling attempt. He formed an ASO team under the supervision of Additional Collector Dr Aamer Nawaz Hamid and other subordinate staff comprised In-Charge Inspector Zulfiqar Jamali, Sepoys and a Driver.

The ASO team intercepted a vehicle at the said customs check-post and confiscated abovementioned smuggling goods. The ASO made a seizure report and deposited the cloth into Sukkur State Warehouse.

Officials said efforts are on to abort the smuggling bids in the region adding that surveillance has been enhanced on roads to keep an eye on the smuggling of non-duty-paid goods and vehicles.
