Customs ASO impounds non-customs paid BMW worth Rs 6m from Defence

LAHORE: Collectorate of Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) on Tuesday impounded an illegally imported BMW worth Rs 6 million from the Defence area here.

Sources told Customs Today that on information of Collector of Customs Faiz Ahmed, the ASO intercepted a BMW model 2007 bearing registration no: ZU/750.

Sources said that the ASO team asked the owner of the vehicle to produce any legal import documents. However, the owner fled away while the driver Ehsan Butt explained the description of the vehicle to the customs authorities.

The vehicle was painted gray and was estimated at Rs 6 million. The sources said that the vehicle has been sent for forensic test. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Deputy Collector Moazzam Raza while Superintendent Nasir Minhas, Agha Qadeer and Sajjad Bukhari included in the team that successfully conducted the operation.

It is necessary to mention here that Customs Preventive ASO expedited its efforts against non-duty paid vehicles which are being plied on roads without legal documents.
