Customs Exports issues notices to companies involved in tax evasion

KARACHI: The Customs Exports has served three show cause notices and one final notice on tax defaulters and tax evaders for recovery of dues.

Sources told Customs Today that Custom Exports issued notices to four companies, including M/s JK Plastic Industries (M/s Jibran Khan Plastic Industries) M/s Maryam Garments and Export, and M/s Sumera Embroidery. M/s JK Plastic Industries used wrong Pakistan Customs Tariff (PCT) headings to get a consignment of fancy plastic items cleared on August 12 and caused the national kitty a loss of Rs 3.26  million.

During the scrutiny of the import data, the Customs Exports detected the misuse of the PCT heading for which it was issued with a show-cause notice no: 239/2017 for paying the evaded amounts of tax and duty.

Meanwhile, the Customs Exports unearthed another tax evasion committed by M/s Maryam Garments who got cleared a consignment of children suits, cotton and silk fabrics and other items.

The customs authorities, after a careful investigation, served a show cause notice on the company and asked it to deposit the evaded tax amount within fortnight.

Another company M/s Sumera Embroidery cleared a consignment of embroidery suits, embroidery fancy handkerchief and others dresses. The custom authorities issued a final notice and mentioned to submit all the documents for consignment soon and submit a balance amount.

Source said the Customs Exports will investigate 16 more pending cases to defaulters companies and send notices before end of the current month.
