ISLAMABAD: The customs staff of the Model Customs Collectorate Islamabad seized 240 latest galaxy phones valued at Rs4.00million and arrested one passenger out of two who fled the scene.
According to details given by Nisar Ahmed Phullerwan, Additional Collector, Air Freight Unit (AFU) Islamabad, that Assistant Collector Ali Asad, during the scanning of luggage of Flight No: NL-224, found a suspicious bag and asked the passengers about ownership of the bag but nobody claimed to be an owner of it. So upon opening the bag, they found a number of foreign origin galaxy mobile phones.
There was another unclaimed bag found near the luggage but again nobody owned it. So the duty staff checked the surrounding of the Arrival Lounge and found a passenger name Arshad Khan hiding himself in the bathroom.
The customs arrested him who claimed the belongings of both bags. He had also admitted that an accomplice named Waseem Akram accompanied him who fled the scene.
When the customs staff retrieved the travel history of the accused, they found that they are frequent travelers and professional smugglers. An FIR has been lodged against both accused and further investigation is underway. The customs will file an application for their remand today.
