KARACHI: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) has deepened the investigations against M/s Digicom Company (Q-Mobile) after thousands of cellular phone smuggling case surfaced.
According to the source, Director of the Directorate General of Customs Intelligence and Investigation (I&I) Karachi Sameena Tasleem Zehra has directed the team pursuing the case against the smuggling of several thousands cellular phones to be vigilant and act as per law to arrest the mastermind involved in the heinous crime without coming into the pressure from any side.
The source informed that an internal inquiry has also been started against customs officers as without the involvement of them smuggling of cellular phones and tablets in such a huge quantity is not possible.
Name of Zeeshan Akhtar, who belong to the M/s Digicom Trading Company, was given the access of self ID in the Green Channel by the Customs Automation as well as the Appraisement has also made the role of the customs officers questionable as the company mis-declared to get the containers cleared from Karachi International Container Terminal (KICT), said the source.
After the mega smuggling case surfaced the higher authorities have directed to start the process of scrutinizing as there were several other reprobate companies involved in misappropriating the Green Channel Facility, informed the source.
The sources have also informed the Customs Today that it is the starting and in few days more cases against the M/s Digicom Trading Company may be fetched down as in the past the company cleared more than seven hundred and fifty containers were cleared through Green Channel, added the source.
The importers are used to file complain against the staff at the sea ports of Karachi and argue the Customs officers for taking time into the examination and clearing process of different consignment which will not be heed from now as importers have been given relaxation on different stages to encourage import but unlawfully benefits are being taken and the name and economy gets suffer, said the source.
