Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works, Abdulrahman Al-Mutawaa, said construction works are proceeding as scheduled, adding that “a grand project” such as the terminal would require “a considerable amount of time and effort to complete”.

Al-Mutawaa also confirmed that the project would be completed in four years, instead of the initial estimated completion of six years. Worth $4.2 billion, the project is being developed by Limak and local construction firm, Kharafi National.

Both companies won the construction deal after offering the lowest bid of $4.34 billion in 2015. The Emir of Kuwait, the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan inaugurated the project in May. Upon completion, the terminal will increase the airport’s capacity to 13 million travellers annually, with the number expected to grow to 25 million in the future.
