Customs Court sends suspect to jail in mobile phones smuggling case

KARACHI: Customs Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has sent a suspect namely Imran Khan to Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand. The suspect was booked for attempting to smuggle/ non-duty paid contraband mobile phones and electronic goods under the garb of computer broken parts.

During the hearing, the investigation officer produced the suspect before the court and informed that the customs officials arrested the said accused person, who along with other associates in crime, was found involved in the smuggling of mobile phones, tables, LED TVs and other miscellaneous electronic goods under the garb of computer broken parts availing transhipment facilities by the breaking upon the seals of the container while en-route to Sambrial Dry Port Sialkot.

He further informed that court that first information report was lodged against suspect and other accused persons for violation of under section 2 (s) 16, 32, 128, 157 (2) & 178 of the Customs Act, 1969 punishable under section (8) (9) (63) (77) and (89) of sub-section (1) read with sub-section 2 of 156 of the Customs Act, 1969, further read with SRO 566 (1)/2005 dated 06/06/2005.

After his arguments, court sent him to jail and directed jail authorities to produce him on next date of hearing before the court.
