KARACHI: Model Customs Collectorate (Preventive), Karachi has issued guidelines for ensuring safety and security of containers meant for Afghan Transit and Transshipment (AT&TP).
In an office order issued by the collectorate stated that it had issued directives on June 11, 2011 with the directives and for strict compliance that AT&TP containers loaded on the truck in such a manner that their door shall face the driver’s cabin as required under Sub-Rule (6) of Rule – 335 of Chapter – XIV vide Transshipment of SRO 450(I)/2001 dated June 18, 2001.
It says: “The container of such cargo shall be loaded on truck in such a manner that their door sides shall be securely placed against the truck driver’s cabin. Similar precautions shall be taken, to the possible extent, in case of containers of bonded cargo transported by Pakistan Railways.”
The collectorate observed that the instructions were not being complied with. “Such lapse may endanger the sanctity of the cargo and container,” the collectorate said, and directed that in charge focal points and gate staff shall ensure compliance of the rules and orders of the collectorate.
“In case of non-compliance/lapse, the Incharge Sealing shall be held responsible and disciplinary action shall be initiated against him and the concerned gate staff,” it added.
